The filmmakers

Shilpi Gupta is an award-winning filmmaker and journalist. Her debut film, WHEN THE STORM CAME–a haunting investigation of rape as a tool of war as told through the eyes of Kashmiri survivors–won top prizes at festivals nationwide, including the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance and short-listing for the 2005 Academy Awards. Gupta’s work as an editor and producer in news, films, and docuseries has earned 21 Emmy nominations and five wins, screening worldwide on platforms such as Netflix, HBO/MAX, VICE, and Disney. Her subject matter has ranged from celebrity to war to justice and has profiled such intriguing personalities as Kobe Bryant, Martha Stewart, and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. Most recently, she worked on Bao Nguyen’s The Stringer, which premiered at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival and released on Netflix this past fall.
